Vote Bush?
Damn, I really can't think of reason to support George W.Bush on his own merits. Even dyed in the wool republicans seem to always come back to the argument that in 2004 it's a choice between Bush or Kerry. Vote Bush or that scary liberal Kerry will raise your taxes and let Gays run your church bible preschool.
What is this guy's history? It's basically the story of a bright rich kid with no drive. I'm sure you heard the story before, a kid who was handed everything and never got the ethic of working hard for something. The kid who stayed drunk in collage and chased pussy. That my friends is George W. Bush's early years.
Of course now that he's the Commander-in-Chief he can draw on his own distinguished military career to guide him. Let's be honest about that, he flew a plane on weekends to avoid the draft. Even then it's a fact he bailed out of his service 30 months before his formal commitment would normally have ended.
We can't overlook Bush's history in the business world, a record that doesn't speak well of him, it's widely reported he had no talent in the energy business and was bailed out several times through deals set up by family ties. Bush's wealth comes from deep family pockets, not his own hard work. If there was anything he seemed to have a passion for, it was his stint as a general manager of the Texas Rangers baseball franchise.
Somehow Bush wandered into politics. It's easier to understand once you get how sitting behind a desk, pushing off details on his assistants and doing a remarkable job of public relations (read spin doctor) suits him. Loosing his first campaign he learned from his mistakes and cultivated a good old Texas homeboy image. To his credit image and moderate reform was enough to get him re-elected as the Governor.
Have you heard of a management idea called the Peter principle? In brief it claims a rule exists, a rule of organizations that states, "In a hierarchy, every employee tends to rise to his level of incompetence." Formulated by Laurence J. Peter, this rule is supposed to explain occupational incompetence.
While some may find merits in many of George W. Bush's actions as president, I think we are seeing a combination of incompetence and mediocrity. It hasn't stopped him for selling his vision of the future, public relations (spin doctor) man that he is.
I don't hate the guy, I just don't see a reason to vote for him and I don't think I'm alone on that call.
