You might be a Progressive if:
If you believe in women having the right to vote, you may be a progressive.
Oh it seems like a no brainier mainstream idea now but until August 26, 1920, in most areas it was illegal for women to vote. Believe it or not there are still a few fundamentalist groups who think women should not vote.
If you believe in blacks being able to vote, you may be progressive.
What many take for granted wasn't secured in southern states until the Voting Rights Act of 1965. While blacks had the right to vote, those in southern states found out how complicated rules were enacted to effectively stop that from happening. Even today different groups try to suppress black voters through targeted misinformation and misuse of voter challenge laws. Even the Voting Rights Act has been maligned and marginalized in the halls of Congress in the last session by fringe conservative members.
If you believe that a woman should have the right to control her own reproductive choices, you may be a progressive.
You may be a progressive with a lot to worry about. Many would be shocked to know that if Roe v Wade was overturned, abortion would become a crime in 30 states, including Missouri. Nor has the attack against woman's choice been limited to Roe V Wade, as efforts to outlaw certain procedures or put extreme requirements upon doctors who offer the service have been pushed for and enacted in some states. While the greatest focus has been on abortion, some extremist groups oppose emergency contraception by equating it with abortion. Women needing EC would be wise to avoid Catholic hospitals who will not help them avoid pregnancy in cases of rape much less contraceptive failure.
If you think clean air, clean water and less polluted lands are a desirable thing, you may be a progressive.
Once again you would think in general, this is such a common sense thing, one would be hard pressed to oppose it. It was a combination of pressure from progressives and moderates who forced changes requiring Big Business to clean up after itself. Decades later the big business and right wing conservative merger has resulted in stunning reductions in enforcement or repeal of those laws.
If you think people should be allowed to marry regardless of race, you may be a progressive.
It would surprise many to learn that as late as 1967, 16 states were actively enforcing laws against interracial marriage. North Carolina did not repeal it's laws until 1998, Alabama in November of 2000. One rural country in Alabama has refused to repeal these laws as of this date.
